Tacoma, third-largest city in the state of Washington, shares Sea-Tac International Airport with Seattle. The city is also home of the Narrows Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. The connection of maritime traffic to the railroad gave the city its motto: “Where rails meet sails”. The city’s port is of great importance for the Pacific region and the entire United States.

The Museum of Glass is dedicated entirely to the glass art of the 20th and 21st centuries and is known far beyond the city limits. The Chihuly Bridge of Glass, designed by famous glass artist Dale Chihuly, connects the museum to downtown. Nearby Union Station, now a courthouse, also features many glass objects by Chihuly. Downtown Tacoma is so interesting that we returned here a second time many years later.
