Pomodoro, Arnaldo

Italy

* June 23, 1926 Morciano di Romagna

Arnaldo Pomodoro’s works reflect both his work as a goldsmith and his interest in technical progress. The shiny metal sculptures made of silver, gold, iron and especially bronze are mostly abstract geometric shapes such as spheres, discs, cones and cuboids. The outer shell of these forms is not smooth, but is often perforated, so that the inner life of the sculptures becomes visible to the viewer. This consists of elevations and recesses as well as attached elements such as needles or balls. Pomodoro’s works often look as if they had simply been blown open at one point.
