The Canadian writer and artist Douglas Coupland is best known for his novel “Generation X”, an international bestseller that introduced the term Generation X into everyday language. His sculptures cannot be assigned to any particular style, but usually have a connection to history or their location. In Toronto, Coupland designed an entire park; in Vancouver, his colorful sculptures can be found in shopping malls and residential streets.

The Digital Orca sculpture on Vancouver’s Jack Pool Plaza has become a landmark of the city. It depicts an orca made of black and white cubes, creating the visual effect of a pixelated digital image. 950 LEDs have been incorporated into the corners of the cubes, which light up at night according to a specific pattern.
