Australia
The Australian couple Gillie and Marc Schattner are passionate environmentalists and currently Australia’s best-known artists. For more than 30 years, they have been committed to protecting animals and the planet with their bronze sculptures; in 2023/2024, they created the longest sculpture in the world. Led by a gorilla, 45 of the world’s most endangered animal species draw attention to this threat in a 192-metre-long animal chain. The temporary project “Love the Last March” was created in close collaboration with the WWF and is located in the famous Gardens by the Bay in Singapore.
Gillie and Marc are best known for their distinctive characters Rabbitwoman and Dogman, which tell the autobiographical story of two opposites coming together to become best friends and soulmates. As different companions from the animal kingdom, the two represent diversity and acceptance through love; we immediately fell in love with the two lovable characters on our trip to Australia.
The couples’ sculptures can be found mainly in Australia, the UK and the USA, but also occasionally in other countries. In addition, temporary exhibitions take place from time to time, for example in San Francisco, New York or London. That’s where we probably have the chance to meet Dogman and Rabbitwoman again. Friends, here we come!
