You can find them in many German cities, but also in Greece, Italy, Malaysia and even China: the rust-red sculptures by Herbert Mehler. The artist works with Corten steel and constantly creates new figures that remind us of oversized flowers, vases, cacti or giant spools of thread. Although the works of art are often several meters high, they appear light and dynamic despite their ribs and slats (or perhaps precisely because of them). An exhibition of Mehler’s works that took place on the campus of the University of Frankfurt in 2022 is entitled “Growth – Body – Space” and thus characterizes his unmistakable style quite well.
