Vancouver is the only major city on Canada’s west coast and the starting point for almost every journey through the West of the country. The city has the ambitious goal of becoming “The Greenest City in the World” over the next few years. StanleyPark, with more than 1.5 square miles the largest city park in Canada and the third largest in North America, gives the city a fairly good pole position; the network of walking trails in the park covers more than 200 kilometers. Vancouver is also considered the most bicycle-friendly city in Canada; the network of cycle paths is excellent and safe.
Vancouver
Starting point for sightseeing tours is usually Canada Place, the city’s landmark with its white sail roof. Here, at the convention center, cruise ships anchor, seaplanes take off and land and – within sight – container ships are unloaded. Canada Place and the city center invite you to stroll and observe. The modern Public Library resembles the Colosseum in Rome, and the Steam Clock in the Gastown district emits steam at regular intervals. Lynn Canyon and the Sea to Sky Gondola are worthwhile destinations not too far from the city.
The best way to explore the sprawling city around Stanley Park and English Bay is by bike. Those who prefer public transport can use the driverless SkyTrain. Three days for Vancouver seems to be a good plan.
