St. John’s, the easternmost city in Canada, is one of the oldest European settlements in North America. Landmark of the capital of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador is Cabot Tower on Signal Hill in the middle of the city. This is where the Trans-Canada Highway ends, at 7,821 km the only Federal Highway in Canada and the third longest road in the world. A few years ago, we stood at the Mile-0-Marker in Victoria (BC).

In Harbourside Park and in front of the Johnson Geo Centre, there are a Newfoundland and a Labrador each – the doggy mascots of the province. Since most of the houses in downtown are painted in bright colors, the row houses have been given the nickname Jelly Bean Row.
