At the beginning of her career as an artist, Magdalena Abakanowicz was best known for her experimental work with textiles, which now can be seen in many important art collections. Her later works, on the other hand, are often large installations that can be found in squares and parks on almost every continent.
These sculptures are usually headless groups of figures modeled on the human body, animals or trees. Even if the forms seem to repeat themselves in terms of appearance and posture, each figure has its own individual characteristics. A famous example is located in Chicago’s Grant Park; the artwork “Agora” consists of 106 headless and armless cast-iron figures.
