If you’re going to San Francisco Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair If you’re going to San Francisco You’re gonna meet some gentle people there (Scott McKenzie 1967)
San Francisco
It is something very special when it suddenly appears shiny red in the distance – famous Golden Gate Bridge, the city’s landmark. International Orange is the official name of its color. The elegant structure with its Art Deco towers is probably the most photographed bridge in the world, though it often disappears behind thick clouds of fog. Even today, it is still one of the longest suspension bridges in the world; up to 6,000 cyclists, more than 10,000 pedestrians and around 120,000 cars cross the bridge every day.
So when you climb the hills of Chinatown, ride the world-famous Cable Car, visit the sea lions on Fisherman’s Wharf and walk through the huge Golden Gate Park, look at the most winding street in the world, Lombard Street, or look down on the fortress of Alcatraz, drink an incredibly expensive coffee in the Fairmont Hotel in the fine district of Nob Hill and finally end up in Haight-Ashbury, the birthplace of the flower power movement – then a dream has actually come true: to stroll through San Francisco once in a lifetime (or even twice). But see yourself…
